Security Forces Report Operations in Middle Shabelle

Somali security forces have reported operations in Middle Shabelle, part of the Hirshabelle federal member state along the Shabelle river north of Mogadishu.

The Shabelle valley has been among the most persistently contested areas in southern Somalia. Its agricultural land, its river crossings and its proximity to the capital have made it strategically significant to every party to the conflict since the early 1990s.
